Restricted keys are available from most Locksmiths and are a big part of a Locksmiths daily activities.
Locksmiths buy special restricted key blanks from a variety of suppliers who will only supply those blanks to their known clients.
The same restricted keyway or Broaching is sometimes shared by more than one Locksmith, but each Locksmith buys their key blanks coined with their name embossed on the key.
Each locksmiths that uses that particular broaching has an agreement that they will not cut keys to another Locksmiths system.
This system works very well and is honoured by all Locksmiths.
The clients locks can be converted to a restricted profile by the Locksmith replacing the locks standard core with a special restricted core which matches the broaching of their keys.
The restricted keys can be made to operate one or many locks in the clients premises. Master key systems are particularly suited to a restricted key system. (Sometimes called a registered system)
Most name brand quality locks have a restricted conversion available but if not a new lock is required.
Extra keys can be provided with a written authority with the correct signature.
